Meet the People

Rev. Gary Grundman, Pastor

Pastor Gary Grundman comes to us from the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church where he has served as Pastor since 2004. He began service at Lynnewood on July 1, 2009.  His major joys in pastoral ministry include preaching/worship leadership, teaching, and pastoral care.

Gary received his Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from UC Davis in 1974, Master of Divinity from Drew University in 1977 and was ordained an Elder of the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1979. Prior to his appointment in Sacramento, Gary served churches in Modesto & Patterson, California and Elko & Sparks, Nevada. We are fortunate to have a pastor with Gary’s credentials appointed to Lynnewood.

His service beyond the local church includes: Dean, Board of Managers of Pastor’s School; President, Annual Conference Board of Pensions; District and Conference Committee on the Superintendency; Conference Committee on New Church Development; District Committees on Ordained Ministry for the Central, Delta and Nevada-Sierra Districts; Chair, Sacramento United Methodist Union; Chair, South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership; and Annual Conference Board of Trustees. To compliment this wealth of experience, Gary brings tremendous energy and enthusiasm to our family, positioning us well for future growth.

Gary's wife, Debbi, is an ordained Deacon of the California-Nevada Conference of the UMC.  She has served in various specialized ministries over the years.  "As we come to know the people and ministries of Lynnewood, I will see where God calls me to serve", says Debbi.  Gary and Debbi have two sons: Andy, of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dave, of Wauconda, IL.  Grandchildren Dusty, Nate and Nick are Andy and Theresa's children.

 In Diana’s words:

“I consider Dallas my childhood home, and my mother and brother and sister and their families still live in TexasFresno has been my home for the past 23 years. Team sports were my passion throughout my growing up and young adult years. I was a tomboy, and I continued to compete seriously in soccer until about 12 years ago when I tore my ACL after colliding with an opponent going for a high header. Today I'm an avid fan of the Tour De France and hope one day to travel to France to see it in person.

“I travelled to Cuba in 2000 as a part of a United Methodist Deacon Caravan, which had also been a dream of mine.

“I have been in relationship with Grady Knowles for almost 4 years, and we look forward to sharing life together as my son, Jonas, heads for UCSB in the fall of 2009. Among my countless wonderful memories of life with my son is the time about 5 years ago when I accompanied him to Warner Brothers Studios for his appearance in an episode of the television series "Without A Trace". Jonas was an acting teacher with HOTT MODEL Talent Agency, and he was an Explorer with the Fresno County Sheriff Department.

“It was the Director of Children's Ministries, Madele Hares, at Spring Valley United Methodist Church in Dallas Texas, who inspired me with her boundless energy, huge laugh, uncanny knack for making something from nothing and her silkworm collection, to consider ministry with children as more than a summertime venture I invested in as a 15 year old. From Vacation Church School helper, to camp counselor, to part-time youth director, to Minister of Education and Program, to Diaconal Minister, to ordained Deacon, I continue to grow with and into my call to ministry. I look forward to all that we will share as companions in ministry at Lynnewood.”
