Young people at Lynnewood enjoy participating in exciting, dynamic and challenging opportunities.

On Sunday mornings, Junior High youth (7th and 8th graders) will be participating in a two year program that leads to Confirmation.  In these classes, they explore their faith, meet with mentors and visit other churches.  The adult Confirmation leaders are Diana Bohn, Kimberly Carlson, and Anne Anderson.  The Senior High Sunday morning program will be led by the team of Debbie Oshman, Jim Beattie, Sara Ardell, Bob Gatehouse, Bill Behrendt, and John Silva.  This engaging class invites questions, and looks for ways to relate faith to every day life.  Once a month, the class goes out for breakfast during Sunday school...see calendar in classroom for details.

Other traditional events the youth will participate in include the Heifer Project, the 30-hour Famine, the Souper Bowl, and the Sierra Service Project.  Each of these events require adult assistance to be successful and volunteers are encouraged to step up to support our youth.

All Lynnewood Junior High and Senior High youth are encouraged to participate in their respective youth programs this coming year.  Parental involvement is also extremely important if we are to continue to build a successful youth program.  You are invited to participate even if you don't have a child in Middle or Senior High.  All adult volunteers are required to complete certain forms that Lynnewood is required to keep on file.

I encourage all interested youth and adults to contact me to discuss your participation and any ideas you have for strengthening our programs.  Please respond by e-mail if possible so that I can invite you to join the Lynnewood Youth Group I've set up on Yahoo! You can also call me, of course.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Sierra Service Project (SSP) News

In 2010, middle school youth, for the first time, will be able to participate in SSP.  They have their own week of SSP, separate from the senior high youth.  They will work at Indian Valley, the same location as the senior high.

Our senior high SSP team will return to the town of Greenville in Indian Valley (near Susanville) for 2010.

Sierra Service Project, founded by United Methodist pastors, is a non-profit organization "providing life-changing experiences" to youth and young adults through acts of service.

eScrip Update

If you have registered with eScrip to support our youth, the youth and youth advisors thank you very much.  We won’t know who has recently registered as there is a two-month delay before eScrip records are posted on their web site. This is a very easy way to support our youth and you can register at http://www.escrip.com (call Kevin Leninger for assistance).

Youth Encouraged to Join Church Council

Senior High youth are heartily encouraged to come and be a part of Lynnewood’s decision-making body, the Church Council. The Church Council meets monthly on the 4th Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. and considers topics from church budget to program areas to all-church events and administrative policy. Youth interested in using their voice to help guide our vision as a congregation are asked to speak to Diana. We need you!
