Christmas 2010

The Advent season featured performances by the Christmas Ensemble, the Joyful Noise Choir, the Sonshine Choir, the Adult Choir, the Handbell Choir, a soloist accompanied by flute, and beautiful music by organist George and pianist Michelle.  Those venturing out for caroling on a rainy Sunday afternoon brought joy to all they sang to.  Children helped decorate the Chrismon Tree with unique ornaments on three Sundays.  We had four services on Christmas Eve, with a 5:30pm family service, and 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00pm traditional services.  The family service was attended by the most ever, filling the church with young children and their families.

VIM Cedar Rapids

November, 2010
Cedar Rapids, Iowa

"Transforming neighborhoods block by block" is the motto that inspired our group of twelve volunteers from four churches to work for a week to rebuild homes that were damaged by the flood waters of the Cedar River in Iowa.  Under the direction of an organization called Mathew 25, our mission was to try and give hope to the small neighborhood called Time Check.  Click here for the rest of Beth's trip report.

Lynnewood in the Redwoods (All Church Retreat)

September, 2010
Monte Toyon Retreat Center, Aptos, California

Moving our annual All Church Retreat, when Lynnewood retreats to the redwoods, to Labor Day Weekend resulted in one of the largest attended retreats ever: almost 100 people!  Several were first-timers, and they saw what pulls so many of us back year after year.  The setting is awe-inspiring, the fellowship is warm, the study sessions, both full-group and small group, are thought provoking, and the smiles are plenty.

VIM UMCOR West Depot

August, 2010
Salt Lake City, Utah

A joint group of members from Lynnewood UMC, Asbury UMC, and San Ramon Valley UMC traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, for a week of volunteer-in-mission (VIM) work at the UMCOR West Depot. The depot, http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/work/umcorwest/, under the direction of the Rev. Brian Diggs, was established in 2009 as the second UMCOR-owned supply depot. Our team had three main tasks: 1) process all donated items for birthing kits in the depot; 2) re-verify all school kits that had already been processed and palletted; and 3) process as many donated health kits as we could. By the end of the week, our team, which was the only team in the depot that week, had processed, verified, and boxed 1344 birthing kits and 1872 health kits, and had re-verified and re-boxed 4704 school kits (14 pallets!).

Drip and Drench Family Festival

July, 2010
Lynnewood

Our first-ever, Drip and Drench Family Festival was a huge success!  About 60 people took part in the Saturday evening summer fun on our Lynnewood campus.  Water rockets, water balloons, watermelon seed spitting, face painting, snow cones, bounce house jumping, and deli sandwiches were enjoyed by all, and made for the best 5 dollar evening of fellowship and entertainment that money can buy!

Softball 2010

April - July, 2010
Pleasanton Sports Park

The Lynnewood co-ed softball team plays Monday evening/nights from April through July in the Church recreational league at the Pleasanton Sports Park.  Fans are always welcome and are really appreciated by the players.  Lynnewood typically has the largest fan group of any of our opponents, so let's keep up the support!

Great Grill Night Fundraiser

May 1, 2010
Lynnewood Fellowship Hall

Lynnewood's Great Grill Night featured mouth-watering prawns, chicken, pulled pork, tri-tip, hot wings, and BBQ ribs, grilled to perfection by six teams.  Diners voted on their favorite grilled item, purchased delicious homemade goodies for dessert, and bid on award-winning pies, cakes, and bread.  This event kicked off the opening of registration for our Labor Day weekend of the Lynnewood in the Redwoods.  One of the always-anticipated events of the weekend is the Talent Show, so diners at the grill night were treated to three musical acts, such as those seen in the retreat's Talent Show.  All proceeds went towards the retreat and towards relief for recent earthquakes through UMCOR.

Easter Service

April 4, 2010
Lynnewood Sanctuary

A design team for the worship space offered their gifts of artistic creativity to enhance the visual expression of our Holy Week worship services.  At the Easter service, Diana led the children in creating a small flower cross from cut flowers provided by members of the congregation from their own yards.  We are blessed by the gifts God shares and calls us to use to God’s glory!

Mystery Dinner and Fundraiser for SSP

Feb 6, 2010
Lynnewood Sanctuary

It was a “A Rocky Night In A Mountain Chalet”! The much-vaunted and little-known Lynnewood Players, under the direction of the unstoppable Curt, proudly presented a raucously exhilarating who-done-it, set in an Alpine Chalet and featuring a cast of Olympic stars! The three course meal was prepared by the young and heralded rising star chefs also known as the 6th through 8th graders along with their fearless leaders. Special thanks to the adventuresome men of the Men’s Breakfast Crew who provided ingredients for the dinner, the muscle for the arrangement of the dining facilities and also helped with serving. Thank you to our Senior High Youth who were the servers. All proceeds benefitted the SSP youth trips.

Snow Trip

Jan 22-24, 2010
Truckee, California

Sixteen went on the annual Lynnewood Snow Trip.  We stayed at the VFW Hall in Truckee and skied/snowboarded at Alpine Meadows.  After a full week of storms in the Bay Area, which brought tons of new snow to the mountains, conditions were superb on the mountain.  Everyone had a super time, from those on the bunny slopes to the dare-devils on the double diamonds.
