Oct 24-31, 2009
Galveston, Texas
Sixteen people from 3 area churches, Sacramento, and Minnesota spent a week working on Hurricane Ike recovery. The work was sponsored by UMCOR and the Texas Disaster Recovery. We were blessed to have our two own dedicated cooks who prepared marvelous meals for us. Two teams of 7 each were assigned to two houses for the week. Those working on the Garcia house prepped the walls for painting and did electrical work. Those at the Hall house worked on bathroom plumbing and fixture installation and installed crown moulding. The Hall house was especially challenging since it was 2 circa 1900 shotgun houses joined together, with dips and bows in the walls and ceilings and with no square corners!

April - June, 2009
Pleasanton Sports Park
The Lynnewood co-ed softball team plays Monday evening/nights from April through June in the Church recreational league at the Pleasanton Sports Park. Fans are always welcome and really appreciated by the players. Lynnewood typically has the largest fan group of any of our opponents, so let's keep up the support!

Build-a-Thon for Habitat for Humanity
April 18, 2009
Oakland, California
A group of 5 from Lynnewood were among over 300 volunteers taking part in the first day of a 4-day Habitat for Humanity Build-a-Thon. The task was to frame 20 2-story houses in 4 days! This effort, by the East Bay Habitat for Humanity, was the largest Habitat Build-a-Thon ever held in California. By the end of the first day, house 18, where the Lynnewood team worked with 6 other volunteers and 2 crew chiefs, was farthest along. Great job by our Lynnewood workers, Phil Cooper, Cynthia DeLand, Steve Elliott, Jim Loomis, and Jason Speck!

30 Hour Famine
February 20-21, 2009
Lynnewood Fellowship Hall
Congratulations to the 8 youth and 2 adults who successfully
fasted for the 30 Hour Famine!! We spent
the night in the church fellowship hall Friday night and went to bed with no
dinner. We awoke to a breakfast of juice, then trekked a mile for our drinking
water for the day. Back at the church we heard speakers tell us of their mission
trips to both Africa and to
By evening, we were tired & hungry, and very happy to see
lots of Lynnewood folk arriving with large pots and bowls of food!!
A big thank you to ALL those who participated, from
supplying us with water and other beverages, chaperoning us, sharing your
mission stories, donating money, or bringing food, we appreciate all of you for
making this meaningful event happen!! You make a difference in the lives of our
youth, and of hungry people in the world.
