Lynnewood United Methodist Church began in 1966, originally at 1560 Santa Rita Road parsonage garage.  After outgrowing this modest beginning and subsequent times in a Dublin school, rented church space and YMCA facilities at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, the church acquired the present site at 4444 Black Avenue.  Groundbreaking took place on June 4, 1972 and the original facilities (now the Fellowship Hall complex) were consecrated early in 1973.  By 1988 it was necessary to open a new worship center, which remains at the heart of the premises.

The focus of the church premises is the multi-purpose sanctuary.  Seating a maximum of 250, this area is primarily available as a place for Sunday worship.  The facility was designed to be inviting to newcomers, to have a strong, visual presence, to be full of natural light and to offer flexible space.  This flexibility is achieved through removable seating and allows a wide variety of other functions to be hosted including weddings, meetings, concerts, boutiques, etc.  The premises are endowed with an electronic organ, grand piano, full public address, and an adjacent room with sound links for parents and their babies.

An extension to the facilities includes five offices, a library, a choir/meeting room and a general reception area.  Two restrooms are also provided in this development, which was consecrated on February 13, 2000.

Further development of the Lynnewood UMC site occurred during the summer of 2000.  This Phase II of the Expansion Project consisted of remodeling the existing hall and the adding a new education center.  The remodeled facilities provide us with a large multi-purpose Fellowship Hall, a youth room, nursery, improved restrooms and fabulously equipped kitchen.  The new Faber Education Center to the rear of the Hall offers nine new classrooms, which are shared with the Quarry Lane School.  The facilities were consecrated at a wonderful service on October 1, 2000.
